Christmas in the Making stamp set

Today's card share is from the Holiday Catalog. It's a fun little set that just struck a HAD TO HAVE for me. These ladies and their vintage style is such a fun look for Christmas. I feel it's kind of early to be working on Christmas cards for me but I know some of you out there like to get started early. I'd like to get through Halloween before I jump into my Christmas card making. But that's just me. I do enjoy the Halloween decorations.

So I began with this set... my Momento Ink Pad because it's water resistant and I knew I wanted to use my Watercolor Pencils.

I used the Shimmery White Cardstock for watercoloring. It holds up nicely to the water but it isn't as textured as the watercolor paper. Just a personal preference, and the Whisper White cardstock is to weak for this application. It will pill and soak through too much.

I just stamped my image in the Momento ink and gave it a couple minutes to dry good before starting to color it in. Now I'm no artist so my watercoloring technique is a bit well, self taught, we will call it. All I did was outline my images with the colors I wanted and lightly touched the inside lines, then I took and AquaPainter with water in it and just blended the color throughout the whole area so that I didn't have stroke lines. Many times I just dabbed the tip of the Aqua Painter across the colored lines. I did this until I was happy with the look. Let it dry for about 15 min before assembling my cards.

Old Olive, Real Red and a bit of Pacific point is what I used most. But I did include a bit of Daffodil Delight.

The card bases are both done with a basic Cardstock base of Old Olive and then I used some designer series paper for the top layers. On the one on the left I experimented a bit with a tree background using the Lovely As A Tree set. I just stamped that tall spruce three times and dabbed it with a white Stampin' Chalk Marker to give it the look of snow. I then went over it in some clear Wink of Stella to give it a shimmer.

Here's a close up of it ...

Of course the camera doesn't pick up the shimmer but trust me it's there. I'm going to throw in a single of the other card as well...

So there you have it. A bit of Watercolor Technique for today. Hope you have enjoyed this share. All these products are available in my online store HERE if you are in need of anything. Remember I'm running a special through me if you order $75 or more I will send you a spool of the Real Red 1/8in Ribbon from the Holiday Catalog.
